You nailed the take — clear delivery, good pacing — and then you hear it on playback: the fan, the AC hum, that faint hiss under every word. Re-recording is miserable. Here's how to filter background noise out of your mic while you record, then clean it up even further in one click, all in your browser.

Bad audio is the fastest way to lose a viewer

People forgive a shaky camera. They don't forgive a voice buried in hiss — they just click away. The usual fixes are a pain: buy a treated room, learn a noise-reduction plugin, or export your audio to a separate tool and import it back. Most screen recorders give you none of this, so you're stuck with whatever your fan was doing that afternoon.

EZ Web Streams handles it in two places. A live toggle cleans your mic before it's recorded, and a one-click Clean Audio pass in the editor cleans it further after. No plugin, no round-trip, no install.

What you need

Step 1 — Turn on "Reduce background noise" before you record

On the record page, pick your microphone, then switch on the Reduce background noise toggle. From that moment your mic feed runs through a real-time filter that pulls down fan hum, steady hiss and light echo — so the audio is cleaner going in, not just fixable later.

Step 2 — Do a five-second test take

Record yourself saying a sentence at your normal volume. Stop, play it back, and listen to the gaps between words — that's where noise hides. With the toggle on, those gaps should sit quiet instead of humming. If your voice sounds natural and the background dropped away, you're set.

Step 3 — Record your real take

Now record for real. Capture your screen, add a webcam bubble if you like, and talk. The live filter keeps working the whole time, and your narration is transcribed as you go. Watch the timer for the 5-minute Free limit and hit stop when you're done.

Step 4 — One-click Clean Audio in the editor

Your recording opens in the editor. On the clip card, click 🎙 Clean Audio. A short server pass runs a high-pass filter, FFT denoise and normalize — the same moves a mixing engineer would reach for — and drops the cleaned track straight back onto your timeline. This is the deep clean that goes beyond the live toggle, and it's a single undoable step.

Want to go further? Polish can then cut the silent pauses and "ums" out of the take, so your clean audio is also tight.

Step 5 — Export

Download the finished file or publish to YouTube from the editor. Same tab, start to finish — record clean, clean it further, ship it.

How it compares

Adobe Podcast Enhance and Descript's Studio Sound both do excellent voice cleanup — but they're separate destinations. You record somewhere, then upload or import your audio into their tool to fix it, then bring it back. Descript is also a desktop install.

Most screen recorders — Loom included — have no real noise reduction at all. If your take had fan hum, the export has fan hum. Your only options are a plugin or a paid audio app.

EZ Web Streams cleans the mic live as you record and gives you a one-click deep clean in the same editor you're already using — free, in the browser, no plugin, no round-trip.

FAQ

Does noise reduction happen while I record or after?

Both. The Reduce background noise toggle filters fan hum, hiss and echo from your mic in real time, so it's cleaner before it's even recorded. Afterward, the editor's Clean Audio can clean the track further in one click.

What kind of noise can it remove?

Steady background sounds like fan hum, computer whir, air conditioning, mic hiss and light room echo. It's tuned for a spoken voice over a screen recording, not for salvaging a recording made next to a jackhammer.

Do I need a plugin or a separate app?

No. The live noise toggle and the one-click Clean Audio both run inside EZ Web Streams in your browser. There's no plugin to install and no separate audio tool to round-trip through.

Is my audio uploaded to clean it?

The live noise reduction runs on your device as you record. The deeper Clean Audio step processes the track on the server and drops the cleaned audio back into your editor. The Free plan records up to 5 minutes at 720p, unlimited, forever; Pro is $7.99/mo.
